The American Council on Exercise (ACE) is the largest nonprofit fitness certification, education, and training organization in the world. It is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). ACE is one of a few select certifying organizations in the entire fitness industry whose programs have been accredited.
An ACE-certified personal trainer passes an exam to demonstrate knowledge of risk factor screening, fitness assessment, nutrition, exercise science, and exercise programming. He or she must also know appropriate exercise progressions, instructional and spotting techniques, lifestyle modifications and professional scope of practice as it relates to personal training. To maintain ACE certification, he/she is required to take continuing education courses and re-certify every two years.
ACE Certified Medical Exercise Specialist must have verified hundreds of hours of personal training experience, and specialized studies as a prerequisite to the exam. The ACE-CMES is qualified to provide in-depth preventative and post-rehabilitative fitness programming for individuals who are at risk for, or are recovering from a variety of cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic and musculoskeletal issues.
